A Sonnet for a Star

Last week we treated ourselves and our clients to Vintage Bowling in Piccadilly.

A night of networking and fun and an opportunity for Krescendo to make an important announcement: the soft launch of LiveDataset, a new software product that will be released in the first half of 2015.

The venue was exceptional: stylish, retro, colourful, original, new.  It is a true privilege to organise a memorable event (so much so that I wrote a very personal blog post about this).  After the welcome cocktails and before the break-up into bowling teams or, for the more daring, karaoke singing, I made a short speech to thank everyone for contributing to a 13(!)-year success story and to explain what we were up to.  Here is a summary:

<<

Back in 2002, Krescendo launched ExtraSheet, our first product.   ExtraSheet aimed to gather organized information quickly and effectively across the firm.

Over the years, as service providers, we have engineered and delivered many different software solutions to handle different aspects of information management in large companies: from budgeting and reforecasting resources to routing service management tickets, to tracking KPIs, to helping with demand management and investment governance of technology and business programs.

All of these above address different process challenges but each is predicated on gathering organized information.

LiveDataset, an initiative that marks our clear intention to focus again on product,  will be the synthesis of the experience matured every day for over thirteen years in helping firms gather, manage and share organized information.  It will combine the power of a database with the ease-of-use of a spreadsheet.

>>.

As I concluded my speech, I thought I could best convey our excitement at Krescendo by reciting a sonnet, written to celebrate this new star of ours.  And here it is:

<<

I love my data neatly organised
In rows and columns, beautiful, compact
And thanks to spreadsheets I’m quite satisfied
My data looks the part and that’s a fact

Why then, at times, I almost want to cry?
Who changed this cell and why’s this file corrupt?
And what about that lady and that guy…
…whose stuff is in a format that’s messed-up?

O, to gather and share data without stress
To leave my desk in time to have a life
To feel the world’s in order, not a mess
All effort distributed without strife

I know my dream is not accomplished yet
It will be soon, thanks to LiveDataset!
