I recently attended the NoSQL Roadshow, and here is a summary of some of what I got out of it.
Some of the main points I picked up on:
- Most NoSQL databases are relatively new in the collective consciousness
- They are not mainstream yet
- There are several solutions out there, but they’re not claiming to solve all of your problems
- Traditional SQL databases are not dead
It’s also worth mentioning here that Big Data and NoSQL are not the same thing: Big Data can be considered as a problem domain while NoSQL is a technical solution. NoSQL may be used as a more scaleable data store, but it doesn’t have to be used. Similarly, if you’re using NoSQL it doesn’t mean you’re suddenly a big data specialist.
